THERMALLY BROKEN SKYLIGHTS

Thermally broken skylights must be considered in colder climates where heat losses and condensation are most significant. Bristolite manufactures several kinds of thermally-broken skylights. You can order self-flashing or curb mounted Therm-o-weld® or Alumi-lite® skylights with a co-extruded PVC curb which entirely eliminates metal from the curb assembly. Where PVC is not the material of choice we offer fully thermally broken aluminum frames.

Our curb-mounted Therm-o-weld® skylight (Model AS) is glazed with acrylic and has a fiberglass frame. This construction includes no metal parts so the skylight is not subject to the transfer of heat and cold from inside to outside. The acrylic glazing can be double or even triple creating a functional dead-air space between the panes to further enhance the skylight's insulating qualities.

To replace the metal base typically used in self-flashing skylights (whether they have fiberglass or aluminum frames), Bristolite developed a sturdy extruded PVC vinyl base. Our exclusive design incorporates a unique dual dead-air space which contributes to the outstanding thermal performance of the unit.

The U-Value of our PVC base has been tested at .33. Air infiltration was measured at .01 cfm/ft at 15 mph. Our PVC base was also given a 59 Condensation Resistance Factor (CRF) making this one of the most energy efficient products available.

Bristolite's Therm-o-block™ skylights feature a PVC vinyl curb which is far superior to aluminum in reduced transmission of heat and cold (thermal conductivity) and the formation of condensation on the inner skylight frame.

Model ASV makes use of our Therm-o-weld on the PVC base while model ALV uses an aluminum outer frame with the PVC base.

Model GALV is a low profile fixed insulated glass skylight with a PVC energy efficient base frame.

Model ALT has an aluminum frame with a thermal break design to prevent the transfer of heat and cold into the room.
